CHESTERTONS POLO IN THE PARK – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Following ongoing reviews of the event and stakeholder meetings, Sportgate International Ltd have worked with LBHF Council to produce a summary of frequently asked questions:

Q. What are the dates for this year’s Chestertons Polo in the Park?

A: The event will be hosted at Hurlingham Park SW6 on the following dates: Friday 9th June (1200hrs-2100hrs), Saturday 10th June (1200hrs – 2000hrs) and Sunday 11th June (1130hrs – 1900hrs)

Q. Are tickets available for residents?

A. LBHF has secured 2000 FREE general admission tickets for the 2017 event for LBHF residents. Tickets will be allocated through a ballot process. Residents are encouraged to apply for the free event tickets in the ballot. Please visit lbhf.gov.uk/polo for ballot application information.

Q. Where can I buy tickets?

A. Aside from entering into the LBHF ballot, if you are interested in purchasing tickets to the event, general admission tickets are available to purchase on http://www.polointheparklondon.com/tickets via Ticketmaster or telephone 0844 248 5069.

Q. Where can I go to use a football or rugby pitch when the polo is on?

A. The event does not take place during the regular football and rugby season where bookable pitches apply. Sports users will be accommodated on pitches in other nearby parks.

Q. Where can schools go to use pitches while Hurlingham’s are out of use?

A. The multi-use pitch is available at all times (except live event days (9th, 10th, 11th June 2017) while grass pitches in alternative nearby parks have been made available for schools and sport teams during this time.

Q. Where can dog walkers go?

A. The dog walking area on Hurlingham Road will still be available for use throughout the event period. Additionally the northern section of the park is also kept open for as long as possible.

Q. Will the car park still be available?

A. 50% of the Car Park at Hurlingham Park will be available at all times except for the 3 event days where it will be used for pre-booked disabled parking only.

Q. What ground work is expected on the park?

A. Ground works in the run up to the event will include: An enhanced maintenance programme for the park from the end of April. The process of verti-draining, top dressing, over-seeding, mowing and irrigating is an advanced treatment to the ground, building on the improvement works that took place courtesy of the event since 2009. This process will take approx 5 weeks but disruption to the site will be kept to a minimum. Ground works post event includes: Full reinstatement of ground and areas affected by the event. There will be a second programme of enhanced maintenance taking the same form as the works leading up to the event. This will improve the park for the benefits for all users all year round. NB. This is subject to drought issues – the organisers will take on-going advice from The Environmental Agency and Thames Water, and our capacity to irrigate will be guided by that advice.

Q. How will the event be licensed?

A. Sportgate International Ltd have an up-to-date premises licence based on the previous licences granted for this event, and learnings from previous events. The licence is to be reviewed each year to ensure relevance. This temporary premises licence will only permit licensable activities for the 3 days of the Polo in the Park event.

Q. How will organisers manage the traffic that will result from the event?

A. The organisers, Sportgate International Ltd, will be using the same one-way system with relevant parking bay suspensions successfully used for this event since 2011. There will be parking bay suspensions on some of Hurlingham Road and on Broomhouse Lane. The one way system reduces the number of parking bay suspensions by 50%. Details can be found at www.lbhf.gov.uk/polo under the section Traffic Management Information

Q. How will the public access the event?

A. All event attendees will be directed to use nearby public transport links to access Hurlingham Park. Sportgate International have also organised for a taxi company ‘Mycab’ to provide a plentiful supply of taxis to ensure quick and efficient clearing of the area.
